Team Contests

Team Activities (3-5 students per team)

 

 

SUPER TRIVIA/QUESTIONS (advance activity by May 9)

 

Each team may submit 30 multiple choice trivia questions (5 per book). Each question must have four possible answers with the correct answer underlined and the page number of the answer indicated in parenthesis. Questions must be typed with the title of each book at the top of each page. Questions should deal with trivia, not significant details. However, they should not be too far-fetched. A single cover page should indicate the name of the school and the names of all members of the team along with the team number. Questions should be submitted on this Google Form by May 9. Failure to follow any of these directions will result in loss of credit.

 

 

VIDEO RESPONSE (advance activity by May 9)

Each team may submit a 5 minute (maximum) video segment based on/or in response to one or more of the assigned readings. The entry should be submitted on this Google Form by May 9. Failure to follow any of these directions will result in loss of credit.

​

Teams will receive 15 points for completing both activities satisfactorily.

Individual C0ntests

NOTE: Points accumulated by students who participate in individual activities are not added to the points accumulated by their team.

 

  

ESSAY CONTEST (advance activity due by May 9)

 

Students may submit an essay of 500-700 words in which they respond to the following prompt:

​

Grades 7-9: Due to an accident, Querry Genn has forgotten almost all of his past. How does his amnesia affect him? How does he try to live from day to day without a clear or complete memory of his own life? In your personal experience, why is memory so important?


Grades 10-12: Due to their ability to consume human hosts, the Skaldi pose an obvious physical threat to the members of Survival Colony 9. But there are other, more subtle ways in which the Skaldi threaten the colony as well. Discuss some of these ways, exploring how the most obvious threat might not be the most important one.

Do not include any biographical information on your essay. Biographical information will only be included on the submission form.

 

Up to three prizes of $50 each will be awarded in each category, 7-9 and 10-12, depending on number of participants.  Entries are to be submitted on this Google Form by May 9.

 

Failure to follow any of these directions will make the entry ineligible.

 

 

ART PORTFOLIOS (advance activity due by May 9)

​

Students may submit 3-6 pieces of artwork based on any one or more of their readings. The artwork can be illustrations, paintings, sculptures, etc.

​

Please do not include any biographical information on your artwork. Biographical information will only be included on the submission form.

 

Up to three prizes of $50 each will be awarded in each category, 7-9 and 10-12. Entries are to be submitted digitally on this Google Form by May 9.

 

Failure to follow any of these directions will make the entry ineligible.
