FESTIVAL DAY ACTIVITIES

Grades 4-6

Teams are assigned to a room for the activities. Each room will produce “winners” based on teams with the most points. Winning teams and their schools will be recognized at the assembly at the end of the day. The winning team in each room will receive book prizes. Those teams with the highest scores for the day will be invited to the Recognition Brunch in September and each member will receive a book.

  • All teams will be asked to discuss ideas and issues in response to their readings.

  • Each team will be assigned a different “insight” prompt based on one of the books.

  • Teams will prepare their “insights” in 5 minutes and present them in approximately 5 minutes; every member of the team must participate in the presentation.

  • The discussion will be evaluated by a moderator using a rubric.

  • The teams will be awarded 1-5 points based on the overall accuracy and depth of their answer.

Card Match

  • Working as a team, students will find pairs of cards that match and be able to tell which book each match is from.

  • Teams will be awarded 1-5 points based on the number of correct matches they have made.

  • All teams will be asked very specific questions in reference to their readings.

  • Teams may discuss, but may not use books or notes, and will have 15 seconds to respond to each question.

  • The teams will be awarded 1-5 points based on how many correct answers they gave.

  • Each team will answer (on a bubble sheet) super trivia questions in 30 minutes as an exit activity at the end of the day.

  • These questions will be based on all assigned readings.

  • Teams will receive one point for each correct answer.

  • Only 30 minutes is permitted and must be carefully timed by the school Moderator. No books or adult help is allowed.

  • Score sheets are to be submitted in the auditorium at the end of the day, along with the room's score sheet.
